Track And Field Competiton

"Bang!", what is the first thought that comes to your mind? This onomatopoeia can be used in various situations but for me this sound has a whole meaning to me on the 16 January 2011..
That day was a big day for me, i was going to compete in SAA series 1 competition, this was my first track and field competition. My emotions that day was all mixed up! I was elated as i am able to represent Victoria School but at the same time i was nervous after all it was my first competition since i joined this CCA.
The time of my event, the 400m race was at 1430, however i reached there 3 hours before the competition as instructed by my coach, Mr Tan. After some talk on the technique and things to remember during the race, we went to do some warm-ups, which was vital for us sportsmen to reach our maximum potential.Time flies really quickly, by the time we our warm-up, it was time to report. I had butterflies in my stomach, after reporting , we had to wait around ten minutes before the race starts the ten minutes were really important as we had to compose ourselves for the race during that time.
Finally, the big moment have arrived, all the participants were called up to the track and get ready for the race. I was in my position in my starting blocks,"Bang!" the shot from the umpire's pistol signaled the start of the race. I got off to a slow start, i was not in my best form as i just recovered from an ankle injury. At the 200m mark my ankle was aching and the lactic acid was building up in my thighs, at the 100m mark i was losing 'steam' in my 'tank', i could not fight against the lactic acid which caused my thigh to burnt. Alas the race was over, i knew that i ahd done poorly for this race i cam in last for that heats. I was extremely disappointed with myself, i can't stop blaming myself for not training hard enough .
This was when my coach came over and told me not to give up and to try harder in the competition next month.
